In November 2018, TimberWest and Island Timberlands affiliated under the management of Mosaic Forest Management Corp. to pursue a range of economic, social and environmental benefits. The affiliated companies have operated on Vancouver Island for over a century, delivering sustainable forest management within their private forest lands and Crown tenure areas. The Cowichan Lake Community Forest Co-operative (CLCFC) is a locally owned and managed Business Co-operative which creates and maintains jobs through it’s commitment to the principles of forest sustainability, and community economic development. CLCFC was incorporated under ‘The Co-Operative Association Act of British Columbia,’ August 2, 1995.
CLCFC and community leaders have initiated several programs to help economic renewal for the area. With funding assistance from FRBC the BC Ministry of Forests and TimberWest Forest Corporation. The CLCFC has commissioned this business plan to attract value-added wood product investments into the community.
The CLCFC and Pacheedaht First Nation are currently in the process of requesting a land-based forest licence with the Ministry of Forests.
The CLCFC received a forest licence that is volume based, and currently located in the “Bolduc Block.” The co-operative has extended it’s mandate to include the administration component for retraining displaced forest workers and youth. The co-operative is always willing to explore new opportunities to create or maintain employment in the Cowichan Lake area.
