V.I. Marmots:

There is a Vancouver Island marmot colony on Heather Mountain. Vancouver Island marmots are a rather cute but endangered species. There's one adult female there and one 2 year-old male that was transplanted there in the spring of 2001.

In total there are:

• Marmots in wild: 8 pups, 25 adults or thereabouts = 33-35 in total
• Marmots in captivity: 47 (2 pups were born in 2001)
